Hi! My name is Mich Levy. Mich is short for my given name, Micheline. You will see my full name on emails. I pronounce the “ch” with an “sh” sound.
I am the granddaughter of Jewish immigrants. My parents were both brought to Los Angeles as children. That makes me first generation Californian, born and raised in Los Angeles. I moved to Oakland about 15 years ago.
I didn’t like school and got my G.E.D. at the end of 11th grade. I attended three different city colleges between moving and working before getting a four-year degree. I came to enjoy learning in school as an adult, and went on to get a higher degree in the social sciences.
In 2003, I got an adult education teaching credential. Since then, I’ve worked in public schools in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Oakland before coming to Alameda. I’ve taught a range of classes including Reading, Social Studies, English as a Second Language, Citizenship Test Prep, Job Search Skills, English and Math.
I started teaching in Alameda in 2013 and have taught this High School Equivalency Test Prep class since 2016.
